ARCHITECTURE POSTER
INTRODUCTION
Every designer confronts the same dilemma with each new project: Where to begin? What is the descending order of information regarding its importance? Which fonts will be most appropriate or most helpful? What size should a heading be relative to a subheading or body copy? How can a restricted color palette be used to the best effect? How might the information be arranged to maximize its accessibility and visual appeal?
Answers to some of these questions will be quickly determined. Other solutions, however, will require a more rigorous course of trial and error based on prior knowledge, understanding of the problem, and visual aptitude. Crafting a well-fabricated solution that can tell a compelling visual story takes enormous effort.
OBJECTIVES
> To experiment with modular systems to organize a complex set of information
> To investigate hierarchy, sequence, & meaning both within & across data segments
> To manipulate data segments to conform to a conceptual plan
PROBLEM
Your task is to produce a large-format, multi-fold program/ poster announcing SAIC’s School of Architecture Lecture Series, Spring 2024. The program information provided requires thoughtful composition. After carefully analyzing the copy, visually differentiate the content to emphasize hierarchy, sequence, and meaning. Experiment with creative ways to arrange and elevate the data sets by exploring organizational approaches appropriate to your theme. Researching the speakers’ architectural output should yield valuable insights to aid the formulation of a “thematic blueprint” to advance your visual thinking. Consider using rules and elemental shapes or symbols to help separate, order, emphasize, or visually embellish data segments. You may also entertain using self-generated imagery related to your theme, whether photographic or created by another means.
THE FINAL DESIGN SHOULD COMMUNICATE EXPLICITLY AND ENTHRALL VISUALLY!
Primary programs: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
Dimensions: 20 w x 30 h in.
Color: Black & 2 pms (Pantone Matching System)
Font selection: Open, but aligned with your theme
Display cabinet output: Service Bureau, Epson 9900 Or 11880 , Epson Single Weight
or Enhanced Matte.
